What do you mean The Requested Operation Requires Elevation(Windows Vista)? (clearing cache)

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Anytime that you change a web sites IP address, like moving to a different web server, or maybe going from a shared IP address to a dedicated IP address, your local PC (the one on your desk or lap) has cached the last IP address from your web site. And when you attempt to view your NEW web siteon the NEW IP address, you still get the old site at the old IP address. Well its time to clear your IP cache. But this simple task can be made a little more difficult than it should be. If you open up your Command Prompt as you would normally do you get this error message when you run this type of command: ipconfig /flushdns

And this warning error appears: “The requested operation requires elevation

To get around this issue do the following:

GO to Start > All Programs > Accessories > right click Command Prompt and click Run as administrator

Now you are good to go and clear out your old cached IP address’s. Also keep in mind you might need to reboot your PC.

Hope you found this tip valuable.
